Experience

This is my 11th year teaching science at Walker Valley High School. I have taught Physical Science, Ecology, Genetics, and all levels of Biology I.

Before making Walker Valley my home, I spent 13 years in the medical field as a Laboratory Technician. A portion of that time was spent in a reference laboratory testing for infectious diseases such as Hepatitis and HIV. Aside from that, I have worked in several laboratories, both in hospitals and at a local pediatricians' office, performing general  tests in the Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, and Blood Bank departments.

Bio

I was born in Mobile, Alabama and lived for a short period of time in Biloxi, Mississippi before moving the Tennessee. My parents were both teachers and taught at local grade schools: my father at Hopewell Elementary and my mother at a school in Meigs County.

I went to HS at Bradley Central and graduated with the class of 1986. After high school, I went to college and received my Associates degree from Cleveland State and spent the next 13 years working as a medical laboratory technician at area hospitals and a local pediatricians' office.

In 2003, I went back to college to finish my bachelor's degree in Science Education with a concentration in Biology. After graduation, I began my career at Walker Valley High School.

In 2016, I recieved my master's degree in Chemistry Education and look forward to adding chemistry to my schedule this Fall.

I am married to Alan Bivens, the Technical Engineering teacher at Walker Valley. We have three children, Zach, Macy,  and Rachel. Zach and his wife,Amy, have two daughters, Nora and Rae.

My family enjoys traveling and sports. On any given afternoon or weekend you may find us at the softball field, soccer field, or swimming pool.  We also enjoy cheering on our Mustangs!!!

I am truly blessed to have a beautiful family and a very fulfilling career.
