The Cultural Diversity Council has identified that the week of Feb. 26 - March 2 as Cultural Diversity Week. Here are the events planned for this week!

This week will be identified as Cultural Diversity Week here at Walker Valley.  We will have the following items surrounding this event:

  • A survey has been created to gauge the items concerning our school culture in regards to cultural diversity.  This 5-question survey will guide discussion on the Friday afternoon session.  The survey must be accessed from a student's school gmail account at the following location - Cultural Diversity Survey
  • Our newly-formed Cultural Diversity Council has coordinated with Lee University to provide grade-specific sessions during MAP in the gym each day this week.  The schedule will be: Monday (seniors), Tuesday (juniors), Wednesday (sophomores), and Thursday (freshmen).   During these sessions, presenters from Lee University will share unique perspectives of culture that shape our reality.  We have invited several news outlets (News Channel 9, Channel 3, Chattanooga Times Free Press, and Cleveland Daily Banner) to join us for these times as well.  If there are students who do not wish to attend, they may be re-assigned to another MAP class for the day.

  • The Cultural Diversity council has also developed a 5-question survey to assess the level of understanding of the issue of cultural diversity.  Please share the following url with your MAP students on Monday and allow them to answer the short form:

  •  On Thursday afternoon there will be an event in our media center for students, teachers (an in-service opportunity), staff, and parents.  The event will be a world café discussion guided by the members of the Cultural Diversity Council.

  • Friday will be a round table discussion for any students interested in revisiting the message of the speakers throughout the week and candid conversations about our current climate at WVHS in regards to cultural diversity.  Students must have a ticket to be dismissed from their MAP class.  The free tickets are available in the counseling office.  Students and teachers who have purchased a Cultural Diversity t-shirt will be wearing those on this day.
