Turkey Feathers Feed Thousands...

Annual Southern Heritage Sponsored Food Drive for Local Community
Annual Southern Heritage Sponsored Food Drive for Local Community

The National Honor Society of Walker Valley coordinates the annual food drive as part of the community's "Southern Heritage Food Campaign".  In November, students are challenged to purchase turkey feathers for $.25 each and use them to decorate the turkey on their classroom doors.  Students may also bring in individual canned goods as part of the drive.  Throughout the school thousands of turkey feathers appear on doors signifying that thousands of dollars are being raised to support the community food bank.  Walker Valley High has been recognized as one of the largest contributors to this annual event.  Through the efforts of the food drive, thousands of people in the community are reached, and many families are fed.  The class that has the largest number of turkey feathers on their door is honored by the National Honor Society with a pizza party.
